Senatobia, MS – Fishermen were having fun as they reeled in fish and put them on a stringer for the weigh-in at The Baddour Center Youth Fishing Rodeo Saturday, May 15th.

“Both planning and attending the Fishing Rodeo was fun,” said Karen Dunn, Director of Development & Public Relations for The Center. “Working with sponsors and individuals from the community reminded me how blessed The Baddour Center is to be part of a supportive community, and that’s something of which we, as a non-profit, are very proud!”

The Fishing Rodeo was held on The Baddour Center’s grounds at 3297 Highway 51 South in Senatobia, Miss. Baddour residents and guests from North Mississippi Regional Center’s Senatobia group homes were the first to cast on Friday, April 30th.

The next day, May 1st, was scheduled for the youth fishing rodeo, but severe weather required the competition to be postponed until Saturday, May 15th, which turned out to be a beautiful day for fishing despite the cloudy forecast.

Over 60 participants in the youth competitions showed their fishing skills during the morning competitions. Following lunch and the awards ceremony, guests enjoyed Open Fishing, a unique opportunity for people in the community since The Baddour Center’s lake is private property.

The First United Methodist Church of Senatobia’s youth group also sold snacks to raise money for its upcoming mission trips.

“We are grateful for everyone who made the Fishing Rodeo a success this year,” Dunn said. “Despite rescheduling the event because of inclement weather, we are pleased with the turnout and look forward to this community event growing each year.”

The Baddour Center partnered with The University of Mississippi School of Health, Exercise Science and Recreation Management for the community-wide Youth Fishing Rodeo. Brian Yarbrough, a graduate student, worked with The Center’s Development & Public Relations Department to plan and organize the event and was on-hand that day to assist with the event.
