Homecoming rains fun on all
Senatobia, MS – Dancers moving to lyrics from the song “Jungle Boogie” was one of many senses suggesting that you were in a jungle on Friday, October 14th, when The Baddour Center’s gymnasium transformed into a jungle for its annual Homecoming celebration.
Themed “An Evening in the Rainforest,” Homecoming was an exciting week with Pajama Day, Dress Up Day, Pet Day, Jungle Day and Black & Red Day during Spirit Week.
The Resident Government Association (RGA) hosted its annual fundraiser, serving employees with lunch from Chik-Fil-A while the Performing and Creative Arts Department provided entertainment.
“The Chik-Fil-A fundraiser was a big hit among employees,” explained Melissa Baker, Director of Community Life at The Baddour Center. “RGA raises money so that they can support other charities throughout the year, so the focus of community during Homecoming seems like a perfect fit for this event.”
Residents and guests also enjoyed a pep rally before and a dance following the game, just to name a few of the festivities.
During halftime, there were many performances, including the Baddour Crusader Cheerleaders, Baddour Dancers and Wimpy Warrior Cheerleaders. Nine Homecoming maids, selected by their peers and representing their respective homes, were escorted onto the field, too.
Amanda, who is originally from Munford, Tenn., was crowned the 2011 Homecoming Queen.
“I was excited and surprised,” Amanda said about recently obtaining this position of royalty. “It’s my first time to be the Homecoming Queen.”
It was a busy but very fun week, one that will be remembered for a long time because once again the Mighty Crusaders defeated the Wimpy Warriors in the annual flag football game.
“Homecoming is one of the biggest events at Baddour,” Baker explained. “Everyone looks forward to it because of the costumes, performances and overall excitement. It’s fun!”
The Baddour Center’s mission is to provide a model residential community for adults with intellectual disabilities in an environment that promotes maximum growth intellectually, spiritually, physically, socially, emotionally, and vocationally.
