Miracle Drive Golf Tournament fun way to begin weekend
Senatobia, Miss., Jun 1, 2009 - With gorgeous weather and a fun day, the 8th Annual Miracle Drive Golf Tournament, a benefit for The Baddour Center with preliminary figures hopeful to exceed $50,000, took place on Friday, May 22nd.
“Our goal each year is to ensure golfers enjoy the tournament while spreading The Baddour Center’s mission and raising money to fund the many programs and services we offer,” said Parke Pepper, executive director for The Center. “We accomplished our goal again this year. Every golfer walked away with a smile on their face and the knowledge that they helped 171 men and women with intellectual disabilities. No matter what your scorecard says, it can’t get much better than that.”
The four-person scramble began with lunch by Harrah’s Entertainment and ended with hors d’oeuvres provided by First Choice Catering. Following the shotgun start at 1 p.m., 34 teams hit the fairways with a chance to win a new Mustang from Country Ford of Southaven, as well as hole-in-one opportunities for such things as a trip to Hawaii. Everyone wrapped up the day with awards, including the putting contest, longest drive, and closest-to-the-pin winners.
The Miracle Drive Golf Tournament was held at the state-of-the-art The Links at Cottonwoods Golf Course, at Harrah’s, Tunica. Cottonwoods’ rolling fairways features a links-style, par 72 course. Three winning teams were chosen in three flights.
“It takes a pool of resources to help make a tournament successful,” Pepper said. “We are grateful for each volunteer who did their part, as well as the Cottonwoods staff who helped the event run smoothly. Most of all, we are grateful to our generous sponsors. We can’t do what we do without their support.”
Sponsors for the tournament included FedEx, Presenting Sponsor; Harrah’s, The Links at Cottonwoods, Eagle Sponsor; H.W. Durham Foundation, Eagle Sponsor; Conwood Company, LLC, Birdie Sponsor; Barnes & Pettey Financial Advisors, LLC, Golf Cart Sponsor; First Security Bank, Money Hole Sponsor; as well as numerous other sponsors.
